Church history

The present Aberfeldy Parish Church of Scotland was formed with the union of St Andrew’s Church and Breadalbane Church in 1951.

St Andrew’s Church, in Crieff Road was built as a Chapel of Ease (Mission Church) in 1884, and became the parish church in 1897 when the Parish of Aberfeldy was formed by taking in parts of neighbouring parishes. Some years after the 1950s union, this became the church building for Aberfeldy Church of Scotland and remained so until 2005 when it was closed and sold.

The building which we now use, in Taybridge Road, was built as the Free Church in 1843, and later became known as Breadalbane Church. In the late 1950s, it was converted into church halls for the united congregation, and was used in this capacity until 2004 when a major redevelopment and extension commenced.

On 29th May 2005, Sunday morning worship started in the Crieff Road building, and towards the end of the service the congregation walked from the old building with the Bible being carried ahead, and the service was concluded in the new sanctuary at Taybridge Road . This was followed by the official opening on 15th June 2005 by the Moderator of the General Assembly. Our minister at that time was the Rev Sandy Gunn (March 1986-October 2006). Mark Drane became our minister in 2007.

The new facilities for worship, fellowship and outreach, developed in and around the old building in Taybridge Road are flexible and modern, designed for the variety of church life appropriate in the 21st century.

The churches of Aberfeldy, and Amulree with Strathbraan were linked in 1973, and Dull and Weem joined the linkage in 1989.
